How to Price Your Online Course to Sell

A great course deserves more than a “good enough” sales strategy. Discover the decisions that can make it easier for customers to say yes — and help you get more value from every sale.

YOU CREATED THE COURSE. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TEACHINg. YOU KNOW WHO IT'S FOR.

THE QUESTION THAT STOPS THE MOMENTUM FOR A SURPRISING NUMBER OF COURSE CREATORS?

What Should I Charge for This?

Right after that comes a dozen more questions.

Should you offer a payment plan?

Should you create different packages?

iIs $97 too cheap? Is $497 too expensive?

Should you add coaching?

What about an order bump?

Should you accept PayPal? What about buy now, pay later?

And how much information should actually appear on the checkout page?

These might sound like separate decisions.

They aren't.

Together, they make up your offer and payment strategy and getting that strategy right can make a significant difference in how many people buy and how much each customer is ultimately worth to your business.

HERE'S HOW TO THINK ABOUT IT:

Stop Pricing Your Course By the Number of Lessons

One of the biggest mistakes we see course creators make is trying to calculate price based on how much "stuff" is inside the course.

"There are eight modules, 24 videos and six worksheets, so maybe $197?"

That's understandable. But your customer isn't really buying 24 videos.

They're buying what those 24 videos can help them do.

Consider two hypothetical courses:

Course A: 20 hours of general social media training

Course B: 3 hours showing independent consultants exactly how to build a referral system that can generate qualified sales conversations

Course A contains considerably more content.

Course B could easily be worth considerably more.

That's why we encourage our clients to start with the value of the outcome, not the volume of the content.

Ask:

What will someone know, accomplish, avoid, save or earn after completing this course?

How difficult would it be for them to figure this out on their own?

How much time could your process save them?

How expensive is the problem you're solving?

How much access to you comes with the purchase?

The more specific and valuable the transformation, the more room you generally have to charge a premium price.

What Are People Actually Charging in 2026?

There is no universal "correct" course price — and current marketplace data makes that very clear.

Kajabi reported in August 2026 that it commonly sees self-paced flagship courses priced around $197–$497, while programs incorporating live elements often fall around $497–$997.

Premium programs with substantial access to the expert can reach roughly $997–$2,997 or more.

Ruzuku's 2026 analysis of nearly 12,000 courses paints an even broader picture: the median one-time course price was approximately $150, with the middle 50% ranging from roughly $49 to $357.

Those aren't rules. They're reference points.

A $49 introductory workshop and a $2,000 expert-led program can both be appropriately priced.

The difference is the offer.
